End of the Week Zen

Martin CreedWhen I’m starting to spin with anxiety about something that hasn’t happened yet, my close friend who is a psychotherapist, tells me, “don’t worry twice.” Keep this phrase handy. It really works. I’m about to embark on my weekly 24 hour no worry zone. I wish the same for you. Happy weekend!

I would say that “worry” doesn’t change the outcome of anything- so what’s the point?

  2. Bobbi says:

I agree Dana, Happy weekend everyone

I confess I am guilty of worrying too much. At this moment I am worried about the sequestration about to come down on us. It could affect me big time, especially if I am furloughed, a very real possibility. As a newly divorced single person, the idea of losing income terrifies me. But it may not happen so I need to focus on other things. Worry twice? I tend to worry thrice and I know that is not good.

I lost a lot of brain cells worrying that the Supreme Court was going to overturn Obamacare. I’ve decided not to pay too much attention to the sequestration coverage.

worrying twice, i’m just getting warmed up. sigh.

What a smart response from your therapist! If only i could put it into practice. I guess i think worrying before something happens is a way to brace myself or prepare?

    • wendy says:

Yes, Gayle. I think that’s why we continue to do it, even though we should have learned from our vast collective experience, that worrying doesn’t work. It’s a defense mechanism.
