JFK Assassination Fatigue

Reclining ManEarlier this month, I devoured the articles about JFK. I poured through photos of the Kennedy clan. I’ve watched and re-watched the Zapruder film. But tonight, I’m at my limit for looking back. Here’s to a weekend of creating new memories.

Check out NPR’s 1963 twitter feed. It’s amazing how much went down in just that one year. I made it from the start through most of September today, and was floored by just how much “tweet-worthy” news there was in just 4 short months. Even the songs that topped the charts will be instantly recognizable to anyone who doesn’t live under a rock.

It also gave me some perspective on the difficulties we’re now having in the country. We overcame SO much worse, hope still exists to get things back on track today. With such rapid progression on a number of fronts this year, maybe we can look back in 50 years on 2013/2014 as a time of great challenge and great accomplishment.

A few years ago, I went to an event at which Justice Breyer spoke. This was right after the Citizens United decision, and people in the audience were really upset. Breyer recounted some of the struggles of the civil rights era, and how resilient we are as a country. It’s a great perspective.

I’m a bit of a history junkie, so my threshhold is pretty high, but I hit JFK overload awhile ago, too. Ugh.

I was all-in. The best program was the Frontline doc that took you through the media’s eyes from 1 PM CST 11.22.63 on. Amazing.
