Had my massage (90 minutes!) and it was wonderful I may have to make this an annual tradition.

Happy Valentine’s Day! (It is 11 minutes over here in Central Standard Time) I had a lovely day at work. Bought myself a pretty bunch of flowers and cracked a new bottle of red after getting home tonight. Being generous indeed! Which is more than I can say for the marrieds and coupled-s at my workplace.

I wasn’t able to get my massage as they were all booked up by the time I called. BUT I did have a session with my personal trainer and he went an extra 30 mins with me b/c his next client cancelled…I take that as a wonderful Valentines Day gift! And then I ran into a friend at Whole Foods after the gym and so had a surprise impromptu lunch! All in all, a lovely day.

Working out with a personal trainer is a great V-Day ritual (as long as it’s something you love doing.) I also had a scrumptious lunch with a good friend.

No massage for me, but I went to a tango workshop instead. 🙂

      Sounds fun! How was it?!

    • wendy says:

Were there lots of people in your tango workshop on V day?

It was so fun! I am not very good at tango, but I’m slowly getting better. It wasn’t packed, but we were pretty evenly split between followers and leaders, and the people were great. There’s lots of mixing, so even an inexperienced dancer like me gets to dance with lots of people. It was really, really nice to have something fun to do.

When you say followers and leaders, does gender play a part?

          • lauren says:

Traditionally, yes. But the teachers I’m working with — a couple — stress that it’s important for everybody to learn both roles. It makes the leaders (men, usually) much more sympathetic to the followers (women, usually). I’ve found that leading makes me a more attentive follower too. But usually we’re a pretty evenly-mixed bunch, so that’s nice.

It’s all very foreign to me, so it’s been challenging… and fun!

It’s very interesting to think about the symbolism behind leading and following. Most important, it’s fun.
