Walking On Air

Christian Louboutin

For a cousin’s wedding more than a decade ago, I treated myself to a pair of Christian Louboutins (on sale). Occasionally, I take the red-soled beauties out of the closet to admire them, though I’m rarely inclined to put my foot inside. At the Brooklyn museum right now, there’s an exhibition, Killer Heels: The Art of the High Heeled Shoe. It’s the next best thing to owning a pair.

I seem to recall the newspaper article that led me to your blog described you as a woman with great style, opting for comfort :-).

I’m in awe of women who are able to walk around in high heels. I’ve never been able to. But I’m also wedded to pretty shoes. My strategy lately is to keep a bring a pair of Birkenstocks into my car, so I can change out of my less comfortable shoes as soon as possible.

I used to do heels. Now that I’ve transitioned to classy, stylish shoes that happen to be flats, I don’t know that I will ever go back to the heels. Like you, I sometimes take some of my “fancier” heels out to admire.

Flats are very stylish these days. And all you have to do is look at an Audrey Hepburn movie to see how you can rock it without high heels.

I have flat feet so being in flats is not ideal for me, even though I love them. I have returned to wearing heels but only a thicker heel as I always feel unsupported in skinny heels. My new thing though are wedges and I’m having a ball. I get both the height and the stability I’m looking for.
