Tomorrow is Free Macaron Day in NYC

Perfect macaron

In honor of the first day of spring, select bakeries around New York City are giving away French macarons to their customers. How do we export this holiday to L.A.?

Happy first day of (astronomical) spring (and 20th day of meteorological/climatological spring!) Last Friday I saw my first crocuses on the ground, the silver maples in my yard are starting to bud, and on Saturday I went on my first outdoor run in 3 months. Now to find some wonderful spring recipes (to bond with my new kitchen–finally finished!)

The kitchen is finished?! How does it feel?

Sometimes I just find myself standing in the kitchen, looking at it. Initially, I didn’t want to get it dirty! I’ve been posting pictures on Facebook every time there was a change. Now I just put some before-and-afters on my blog.

Now I’m learning to cook on the new range. Not much experience with power burners and simmer burners and the like, but I’m sure with practice I’ll get up to speed. But I did (almost) burn a stew last night!

I’m having range envy. (My stove is electric, UGH!! It’s all that was available in the building. I almost didn’t buy the place because of it.)

Macarons are my favorite!! Hard to find in Maryland, have to make a point of buying them from a specialty bakery whenever I am in DC.

Though my first 2 attempts at baking macarons were less than stellar, I’ve been thinking of trying again. Then, I could have them whenever I wanted.
