When I’m looking to find my way out of an intractable problem, I take the dog for a walk. The fresh air and change of scenery does us both a world of good. Running into neighbors and having to make small talk forces me out of my head. And every so often when the stars are aligned, I return home with the answer. Where do you problem solve?

When I’m out running. Unfortunately, I don’t always remember the solution by the end of the run, so I’ve taken to verbalizing everything out loud several times during the run.
Good solution, Petra. Much better than taking a recording device with you.
I like the Jane Austen idea. I often come up with solutions when I can’t sleep, so that would be bed. Walking the dog is sometimes good, too. It’s an escape and a relief.
I’m fascinated that you can find inspiration in times of not being able to sleep. Those are usually my most anxious, least productive times.
