Monday mornings after a long holiday can be a fraught time. After days of being off the work grid, it’s a jolt to get back into the swing of things. I had a wonderfully distracting visit with my extended family. We ate delicious Thanksgiving food (twice), drank with abandon, went to the movies (Arrival), sampled awesome Taiwanese-Chinese delicacies and enjoyed L.A. winter weather (rain and 49 degrees). All of which made it harder to navigate the 9-5 reality. And at dawn today, my heart anxiously raced. How about you?

I was actually ready to go back to work yesterday (for the most part). I find that after long holiday weekends, I’m ready to get back into my routine. I much prefer random days off for no reason while everyone else is going to work.
I get your point, Dee. There’s also something that can be reassuring and grounding about a work routine. After this holiday, it went the other way for me.
I had the same feeling. Maybe our bodies are trying to tell us something.
What do you think they could be telling us?
Probably that if our lives look panic-inducing the minute we step back from them, we should make a change.
I think that’s a good rule.
Pretty much describes every working day of my life. Typical of the legal world, I’m afraid, where work/life balance is notoriously off-kilter.
Did you have a good holiday, Karen?
I think there’s kind of an ambient anxiety hovering over so many of us right now — and for some, facing (or trying to avoid) relatives over the holiday weekend made the anxiety worse. I was very thankful for being back to my routine on Monday morning!
There is such an ambient anxiety right now. I was with my extended family (not blood relatives) for Thanksgiving. Much less complicated.
