What’s Your Favorite New Purchase?

Two weeks ago, I bought a new phone. My old one was on its last legs. It was slow and the battery wouldn’t hold a charge. I’d been lusting after a new phone for a whole year. I was surprised that at first, the purchase wasn’t as thrilling as I’d expected. It took me awhile to appreciate it. And now, I’m in love. What’s your new favorite thing?

I’ve been on a minimal streak for a while buying much less. But makeup and organizing things (with my minimal shopping I’ve also embraced KonMari) give me a kick. I think I like the makeup packaging and trying new things. Even though I don’t wear much makeup!

I remember reading that lipstick continued to sell big during the depression. New makeup is an inexpensive pick me up.

I am addicted to nail polish and painting my nails. It helps me cope with stress. I have some fun new colors recently. I give myself a new manicure about every four to five days. It’s the only girly thing about me.

I just got some new running clothes. My old clothes were almost comically worn out. Now I have new shoes and sweatshirt and pants and a sports bra. I almost don’t want to wear them, knowing they will be getting sweaty and gross right away.

Like Claire, I’m on a mission to buy less (and absolutely NO cookbooks or magazines before Sept. 1). I’m also on the “replace an older thing instead of buying a new thing” kick (which your phone purchase would fall under). But food isn’t under the “no buy” mandate! So a few weeks ago I bought a Thai guava. Didn’t know what to do with it (turns out you use it unripened). After some time, it started to ripen and smell divine! I would purposely walk buy the bowl in which I’d placed it. Or I’d pick it up and give it a sniff for a quick shot of pleasure. Sadly, it didn’t last, but maybe I’ll just have to buy another!

Thai guava? Never heard of it. What does it taste like? (FYI, I sold my old phone on the site, Gazelle.com which made the new purchase even better.)

I recently started a new job after three years of under-employment. After reaching my (modest) savings target, I lashed out and spent 250€ on makeup. It has made me smile every morning since!
