I answered ‘yes’ to your poll, although I do find all the speeches, hype, etc. wince-inducing and egomaniacal. For that reason, I left the theater where I was watching it immediately after La La Land was called and so didn’t get to watch the big mis-hap as it occurred! And now I’m kicking myself. Guess it’s a love hate relationship.
And I DID enjoy listening to an interview with Kevin O’Connell the day before the Oscars. He’s been nominated twenty times (!) w/out winning and has such a positive and grateful attitude towards his nominations and the Academy. I found his attitude admirable–I think that I’d be fatigued and a little bitter if I’d been passed over so many times. And thankfully, he won last night! So that was really cool.
Yeah, I think I was in high school the last time I watched it for real. Hollywood is not interesting to me (no offense). I haven’t seen any of the films that were nominated except for Hidden Figures and a few of the animated ones.
I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum. Usually, the Oscars are like a holy day for me. This is the first year that I can remember not caring much. I worked in the film business and I live near Hollywood, so that could explain it.

Meg, I had a similar experience. I turned the TV off the moment La La Land was called, and missed the big moment too!
Didn’t watch.
Is that typical for you?
