To all those who ralled in support of the Affordable Care Act and went to townhall meetings with your Members of Congress. THANK YOU. It worked!

    I called my congressman!

    I emailed my congressmen!

I called my rubberstamp red state house rep several times about different things. I know he can’t be swayed but I want him to know not everyone in his district is a trumper! Related: I witnessed a whole dozen or twenty maga marchers going down the state capital main street today – around the time one of our senators was a few blocks away hearing from a full house of rowdy constituents. I’ll take the small and moral victories.

All my MOCs (Members of Congress) are Democrats. So it’s an easy to call to make. What’s it like to speak to the person answering the phone of your red state house rep?

It’s easy. It’s just a staffer who may ask your name and address and says “I’ll pass along the message.” Everything I’ve read says they just take a tally and distill your message down to a sentence “no on bill x” or “trump is a liar” so their boss can get a quick read. You don’t need to be prepared to defend your position. If you have a group you trust and they say Bill X is bad just call and say “I am a constituent, vote no on x thanks”. Once though I did enjoy calling our black and republican senator’s office in Feb and saying his support for Jeff Sessions was an especially bad look during black history month. But I’m brief and polite and so is the person on the other end of the phone.

That’s good to know, Claire. I had a long chat today with a staffer at Rep. Adam Schiff’s office, who I’m delighted is my congressman. I wanted to get some talking points from him. It was very satisfying. He also gave me the correct pronunciation of Nunes. NOO-nez.
