I’m not on facebook but I know what you mean. I haven’t done much fun this summer yet. I’ve been too tied up and focused on my new job. I start to feel bad when I decline fun invites (most out of town) and the response I get is “working?!” I have to remind myself they don’t have this job and doing well at my job and establishing myself is important and to be nice to myself.
As a Career Coach, I work with people who are searching for jobs, and would love to be in your situation. So yes, be nice to yourself. You’ve earned it!
Oh, I’m guilty of this. But is it because you aren’t going on vacation? You ARE awfully busy, Wendy. Could you fit in a short trip somewhere?
Facebook and the like do allow us to show carefully curated versions of our lives (I mean, I never post the mundane unless it’s funny). I have to remember that sometimes.
I’m sure because of the 4th of July holiday, there were a lot of photos in my feed. But I was lucky enough to be in ballet class on the 4th, which is truly my happy place.
It’s SO easy to envy those curated photos and, frankly, other peoples’ lives. I have to remind myself to enjoy my own (actually pretty great!) life. I also sometimes remind myself it’s very possible those enviable holidays included pre-trip stress, sunburn, family tension, whining, jetlag, illness, financial overextension, unmet expectations, post-trip discombobulation, and other unseen unpleasantries.
Also — it always makes me happy to think of you at your ballet class, so thanks for including that :).

I like your reality-travel list. Very thorough.
