I am too young for vinyl. But my parents had a record player from their youth. We didn’t have many tapes or cds or fancy audio equipment. My brother got a box of random records once and Janet Jackson’s Control was the one that was must current of them (and by then it wasn’t anywhere near new). I played the heck out of that album!
Wendy,
It already has. Many of my younger friends have fantastic turntables and complete sound systems. And a couple of friends in my age group still enjoy vinyl and have sound systems.
Gotta admit, I love the sound. It has much more depth.
I collect vinyl records. People donate boxes filled with old vinyl records to the Goodwill store. I painted my parents old records (45s)made a collage, framed them. They are hanging in my office.
I have a rather large and beloved record collection that I have schlepped across country more times than i would like to admit. Sometimes I wish my collection was more easily moveable, like baseball cards or stamps–but i like the permanence of records and the cover art and that makes it worthwhile to haul it with me from place to place.
That is true, it really does–since every move makes me edit the collection a bit, what has remained are the ones that mean the most.
Good point, Wendy!
Never bought one, never handled one, don’t even know how to play one on a (turn table?). Parents had a box in the basement.
I was surprised to read that people are buying vinyl again. I wonder what the new “record players” will be like.

Having a great turntable was a real status thing, back in the day. I wonder if the hardware is going to become important again too.

And has the technology of the turntable changed much?
I literally lost my mind with excitement when I saw this. When you click the link scroll down to play the 3 minute 30 seconds video.

I would love to see one of these floating turntables in person.
I have a record player with a cd player and FM/AM radio.
And do you use the record player?
Yes, I use my record player. I collect old vinyl and buy new vinyl.
And now you’ll be having a lot more options to buy new vinyl.

That is so cool!

Traveling with art. Love it!
