What Are You Reading? Fall Edition

For my career coaching work, I’ve been reading The Power of Habit, which I highly recommend if the subject interests you. I’ve also been catching up with Ta-Nahesi Coates’s essays in We Were Eight Years in Power. These days, my heart doesn’t seem to be into lighter fare. What about you?

  1. I’m alternating between Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth and Rest, by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang. But I’m binge reading the first one, so it isn’t going to last long!

I am doing semi-light reading: cookbooks and a short novel (Dear Committee Members, a fun, quick read written in the form of academic recommendation letters). I’ve also been reading health-related books, including Robert Lustig’s The Hacking of the American Mind (a bit of a continuation of his well researched anti-sugar polemic Fat Chance). This book, while not the most well written, is chock full of information and really has me worried about the future of our health care system. In fact, I’d love for him to team up with a solid health care economist to provide a data-driven book on the costs of metabolic system on our healthcare system.

I’m not sure I’m ready for real depth right now, though a very thoughtful work of fiction would be most welcome.

I am taking a mini vacation this week, I am going to catch up on a few weeks worth of The New Yorker. They’ve been piling up!!

I have years worth of The New Yorker issues all over my apartment and find it near impossible to throw them out.
