Late October Steam Bath

As I draft this at 5pm on October 23, it’s 102 degrees in Los Angeles. Though the signs of autumn are evident with the fading light, we’re burning up here (figuratively and literally). 15 years ago, when I first moved to the Southland from San Francisco, I remember the evenings as usually cool, even in summer, which made for good sleeping weather. Now, it’s always hot. My dog Rose is not a happy camper. Neither is her Mom.

It’s been a freakishly warm October here in the northeast, too. Seventies when it should be the 50s. But we must be mistaken, because there’s nothing wrong with the climate, right? Global warming is a hoax, right? You believe Marmalade Mussolini and the fossil fuel industry, don’t you?

Is your area at risk of fire?

Because my brother lives in Boston, I keep his city on my weather app, and I look at it everyday. It seems crazy warm there too. And thanks for asking, happily no risk of fire where I live.

We have had some crazy warm weather here in the Midwest (Indiana). 80°F over the weekend (both Saturday and Sunday). But we will probably have our first frost tonight–about three weeks later than the climatological average but actually earlier than last year (when our first frost was in NOVEMBER!) I for one am glad for the cooler temps–sorry you’re roasting in LA!

I got to wear one of my wonderful coats today!
