I don’t understand what they were going for. Make people want to shop to get ready for the big boyfriend reveal? Strange.

Speaking of single activism we had a women’s meeting at my law firm yesterday and in our individual office breakout I and another single woman colleague made sure to include in the feedback that many firm and client events were not inclusive for single women. The coupled culture is so pervasive even at work.

Has all the breaking news on sexual harassment impacted conversations at your law firm?

The managing partner did mention it and say of course that’s not tolerated here. But it hasn’t been much of a topic otherwise. Luck that there aren’t any lecherous abusers in power here? The fact women at these levels have more options? Not sure. The bigger issue I think is all the recent pay equity lawsuits women are bringing against big firms.

Wow, this is very disappointing. Given IKEA’s progressive history (e.g. one of the first, if not THE first, to feature an ad with a gay couple in the US), I am rather saddened. And I agree that the apology isn’t enough–the company needs to do a little more. Perhaps a celebration of singlehood?

Many Chinese women are embracing their single status these days, as it affords them the ability to live life on their own terms. They earn their own money and build their own lives.
