Mashed potatoes have to be creamy and rich. That’s why we love them! I adore Thanksgiving food. Stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts. I’ve been tasked with baking a dessert this year. Someone else is bringing pie, so I’m thinking about chocolate cupcakes.
Turkey
Gravy with pan drippings (already made the base gravy; will augment with the turkey drippings)
Apple-sage-sausage stuffing
Red-wine braised red cabbage
Mashed potatoes
Homebaked bread (already done and in the freezer)
Something green
Cranberry sauce (brought by a guest–her specialty)
Apple pie (prepped this past weekend and in freezer, ready to be baked)
Pumpkin pie (crust dough in freezer)
Homemade cinnamon ice cream
Probably looking forward to my yearly stuffing-and-gravy indulgence most! Also, the thought of cold pie for breakfast the next day is pretty enticing.
I love this holiday! I get to cook (have been hosting for a number of years now). Love everything about it–planning the menu, the tablescape, the fundraising walk in the morning (benefiting a local greenways trail), the cooking, the organizing/timing, the company, the conversation, even the dishes afterward (it’s a way of winding down).
We don’t do much of an event (family too small and far flung) but my faves are oyster dressing and sweet potato pie (discovered as an adult and feel like I was cheated all the years prior).
I was having a discussion today with a friend who’s having both sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie at his Thanksgiving table. Luckily, I’ll be there too.
Making-Toll House Cookie Pie
Going to enjoy-My son’s way too creamy and too rich mashed potatoes.
How about you Wendy?

And I have so much to be thankful for!
I would have to agree that stuffing with gravy is one of my favorite food items for Thanksgiving. How many people are you hosting?
Just 6 or 7, all adults. A small group.
THE PERFECT SIZE!

Tell me about your dream sweet potato pie. What’s in it?
I have never baked it myself. It has a thicker consistency than pumpkin pie. It’s heartier, maybe that’s it?
