Deep Cleansing Breath

On Sunday afternoon, I fired up the BBQ to begin making one of my favorite staples – Baba Ghanoush [1]. Before grilling the eggplant, the first step is to pierce the skin in a few spots to vent. But in a post-holiday haze, I forgot to do this and the eggplant exploded all over the grill. It was such a mess. Let me say without shame that I don’t take pleasure in deep cleaning, but in this case, I had no choice. About 10 minutes in, I realized just how dirty my 6-year old grill had become, and wondered, how far should I take this? How clean does an outdoor BBQ need to be? I know what my mother would say. What do you think?
