Post-Holiday Hangover

My friend Bob calls the first business day after New Years the “mother of all Mondays.” And even if in 2018, that’s actually a Tuesday, I completely agree. Despite my ambitious work-related plans for this past week, I ended up spending lots of time watching movies. (It’s the season in L.A. when, if you’re lucky, you know someone in the film industry who has “screeners” – DVD copies of all the latest movies up for Academy and Guild Awards, and you get to borrow them.) Today, on the mother of all Tuesdays, I’ve had trouble focusing. I’m trying to remind myself of what I tell clients to kickstart their motivation – get up, take one step at a time and go for the small win.

Oh thank goodness Wendy. I’ve been enjoying my long weekend watching movies too (and not taking down holiday decor) Each year I promise to be more motivated but I need a week or so to get acclimated to the new year.

P.S. I did get up early today to review your posts before heading to work.

    CHEERS!

I’m an academic and so I have a “soft opening” before the real one (when classes start next Monday). I spent some time tending to work emails. I also had to work up enough motivation to get a shitty first draft (that term courtesy of the wonderful Anne Lamott) of an award nomination letter for a colleague done. But once I completed the draft (and put in notes where I need to flesh it out) it felt good. I was productive!

Happy New Year! Feeling very hopeful for 2018 in a way I never did with 2017 (and several of my friends feel the same way). And Happy New Year to the entire FPS community.
