It’s Ground Hog Day

I can still remember seeing this trailer before the movie first came out, and thinking how predictable it looked. But I went to see the film anyway and was blown away by its surprising depth. Bill Murray is a national treasure.

Some reasonably respected critic wrote an article (can’t find it at the moment) how he thought ‘Groundhog Day’ was the best American movie!

I loved it, too, but didn’t see it when it first came out.

What surprises me about this movie is it’s broad appeal. When it came out my sisters and I (all teenagers/adolescents) loved it so much we saw it twice in the same weekend. And recently a 50-ish podcaster, Mike Schmidt, a very “guy” kind of a guy, lauded it as the perfect movie.
How many movies out there appeal to both tween girls and adult men? Lol.
I love it, too, but have seen it at least a billion times by now. Enuf.

I’ve seen it a billion times too, and so the surprise has worn off. But maybe in a few years, it’ll seem fresh again.
