“Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer.” This is how I’ll remember Tony. He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together. To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. We’ll miss him.

I loved watching and h airing Anthony Bourdain. Just a little while ago, he had an episode about West Virginia. I was struck about how compassionate he was in his dealing with the people. Never judgemental yet managed to show all the problems. I was amazed that he needed to do an episode about a state in the US. Maybe we aren’t that much different from this far away places most of us will never see except through his eyes. I talked about this episode for weeks after it.
I also read (actually listened to) his first book – Kitchen Confidential and was amazed at his writing skills.
I don’t know why my eyes fill up with tears as if I’d lost a good friend. Maybe I have.
Bourdain was vulnerability and fearless. Such a winning combination. Did you see his episode on The Bronx?
This one got me. I totally broke down watching all the tributes. I think it is because he was such an authentic person, what you see is what you get, and people love that. I will miss him so much.
I know everyone’s thinking this – WHY??????
