I do plan do the things I mentioned.
I also hope to spend time with my nieces, continue home improvement projects, eat at least a couple lobsters …. These times feel so dark, sometimes it’s difficult for me to focus on other things. But I do know myself, and I need to keep nourishing my body and soul to contribute anything consistently.

Looking at major food crops, food issues, spatial diffusion of food, food tourism–pretty much anything that’s a combination of food and geography within the context of tourism. There’s an official master syllabus description, but I don’t have that handy. It’s vague enough that I can do pretty much anything!
And I’m going to start each week with something called Midwest Mondays–an homage to something wonderful or iconic or interesting (and food-related) here in the Midwest. This part of the country doesn’t get much culinary love (save for Chicago and the Twin Cities), but I’d like for my students to be aware of all the good here. Trying to instill a little bit of Pride in Place! I’m a transplant, but I’ve come to love the region and I think I can make a difference here.
Examples of culinary goodness–EXCELLENT cheeses, wonderful produce (especially in Michigan!), and we are basically Craft Beer Central.
The artwork reminds me of the picture I take with my 2 sisters at the beach every summer.
This summer we are going to the beach for a week in July. Also on my list is to visit as many county fairs as I can. And last but not least enjoy Jazz in the Park in Staunton Virginia. Tula (my dog) and I will enjoy food trucks, jazz and meeting new people. Tula enjoys introducing herself to everyone in the world. And somehow seeing people smile and react to her is always good for restoring my faith.
Salem Mass has a wonderful outdoors summer jazz festival. Once or twice a month on a Saturday at 5. Usually musicians from Berklee College of Music. They’re great and it’s free!

Most of mine items are a bit more prosaic than those of Jules, but here goes:
Grill, use the smoker, cook with the herbs I’m growing (and they are doing quite well this year–I’ll work on another batch of pesto this week).
Support my local organic farmers (whether buying from their farmers market stands or going to their farms to pick up poultry, eggs, and produce).
Get ready for the new classes I’m teaching in the fall semester, including one on food!!!
Being grateful for what I have while still working to better myself and others.
And continuing to donate platelets!

Tourism and the Geography of Food. The person who teaches it is retiring after the summer and I asked to teach this one. A nice change of pace for me!

Tula is a rockstar! No big plans, just daily summer life in the big city.
Jazz outdoors, bike rides on the ocean, picnics, the sensuality of life!
