Since the triple digit heat wave arrived last week, there have been scattered power outages throughout the city. That thought would send a chill up my spine if it wasn’t so damn hot. During these dog days of summer, I’m taking a moment to have gratitude for electricity and a central A.C. What’s something you don’t want to take for granted?

In-house modern plumbing! My grandparents lived in an apartment building with the toilets down the hall (and they served three apartments). While that was kind of fun when I was 7 years old, at my age now, I like having everything close by.
It’s interesting that you found that fun, even at 7.
A roof over your head. I’m not being pious or anything either. I had a tree fall on my house several months ago and because of all the rain we were getting out here in the Mid Atlantic, I couldn’t find a general contractor to do the repairs. Even though I have tarps all over the place outside the house, it’s hard to view my home as a place of sanctuary when I know my roof will not entirely keep the elements out. I wouldn’t wish this on anybody.
Oh, I’m so sorry, Tasha. I hope this gets sorted out soon!
Right now, I don’t have a physical disability that impedes my ability to move around in the world, or to enjoy life using my senses fully. I never take for granted my capacity to walk, run, smell, see, hear and taste . . . . .
Yes, indeed. Appreciating that one for as long as it lasts.
