Good Intentions

I hope your first week of 2019 is going well, or at least isn’t too wobbly. For my Career Coaching site, in honor of the season, I’ve written about New Year’s resolutions and how to make them really work. If you have an interest in the subject, check it out here

This year I decided it would be journaling. Whenever something great or bad happens I find it very therapeutic to just hammer it all out on the keyboard.
But the goal is to do it everyday, which never happens so this year it’s been modified to calendar notes. I saw a video on it and it’s called “Bullet Journaling” and it is very doable.
But for major events I still enjoy typing it all out and just getting it out of my system then looking back at it and knowing how lucky and blessed I am.
Happy New Year to everyone and may 2019 bring us all happiness and peace!

I’m a big fan of writing things down (my method is Morning Pages, from Julia Cameron), so I’m delighted that you found a method that works! Happy New Year to you as well, Gigi–I always enjoy your comments on FPS.

Gigi – have you ever tried writing in longhand?

Wendy, I admit my penmanship is illegible. And I write things that I am happy for others to see if they were to stumble upon it, so I want hopefully my kids to see it.

Petra, thank you! I enjoy your comments as well and your journal sounds a lot like my Moms.
She would write 1 to 2 pages a day.

I have all her old journals in chronological order. I found an entry she wrote on New Years Day in 1989 about forgiving her sister about some problems they had in the past.
The entry was enlightening for me and made me realize how petty differences can divide families and the magic of forgiveness.

I was in a writing workshop and the teacher suggested I try first drafts in longhand. I thought it was an absurd idea. I barely knew how to hold a pen anymore. But, in fact, it was a revelation. Somehow, it activated a different part of my brain. Legibility is a real issue, though.
