Post-holiday Menu

When I was kid, I was a picky eater, just like my Dad. There was a dividing line in the family. While my mom and brother would scarf down exotic things like green beans and lamb chops, Dad and I only hungered for toast and chocolate ice cream. As a growing child that wasn’t an option, so the compromise for school lunches was peanut butter and jelly. I consumed that sandwich every day for years, and never got tired of it. After all the rich food this holiday season, I’m ready to get back to basics.

I understand! I’m doing something called “Dry January”, which is just foregoing alcohol in January. However, I don’t drink enough for that to be a big challenge, so I’m doing no alcohol, no sweeteners (sugar, honey, maple syrup, stevia, etc.), no white flour, no white potatoes, no white rice, no Facebook posts. This is Day 8. I most miss my dark chocolate squares that I eat after breakfast. And I must say, I AM eating lots of cheese and nuts! But I just want to get back to normal.

I’ve done it before, but this time I’m looking to extend it to February 21 (my annual physical).

You must be highly motivated for this undertaking. For starters, I couldn’t imagine giving up my nightly martini.
