Clean Up

At 2:30 this morning, my dog Rose had an upset stomach and she let me know by vomiting numerous times, including once on the bed. Barely awake, I had to strip the sheets, replace them and wipe up regurgitated puddles of food. And I did it gladly. That’s love.

I hope Rose feels better soon. Pets are trying sometimes but worth it. I lost my wonderful dog 3 months ago. I needed the time to miss him and adjust to his absence. I am now searching for the perfect dog for me. I’m trying to mentally prepare myself that a new dog won’t be easy and we won’t immediately have the same bond that I’d developed with Biscuit over 9 years.

Rose was on the mend the next day. I was the one who was exhausted. I’m so sorry for your loss of Biscuit, Claire. Do you have a breed of dog in mind?

I am partial to lab or shepherd mixes. I went looking again this weekend and met a sweet lab/border collie/? mix. 9 months old. He played nice with another lab and ignored the cat in the cat room so I decided to take him home as I was sure he wouldn’t last long. He’s done well so far in two days. As I feared it has dredged up some pangs of sadness b/c he’s not Biscuit but I’m sure that will pass.

What a big step Claire. I applaud you for doing it, and allowing yourself the feelings. Please keep up posted!

Happy to report that even though I was quite a mess on day 2 and 3 (cried for my old dog, worried I made a mistake) today on day 6 I am feeling much better. Little guy is doing so well and I’m feeling much more warmth toward him. Now if the friendly stray kitty I took to get neutered will just return today to eat so I know he’s okay (he escaped my laundry room after I brought home from vet yesterday!).

Now that my dog Rose is almost 14, I sometimes wonder how the transition will be for me. It’s comforting to hear your story.
