Deep Freeze

For any FPS readers in the polar vortex, what’s that feel like?

Outdoors? Brutal. My university closed for a day and a half because of the bitter cold and dangerous wind chills, as were many (perhaps most) businesses. Had a some faucets dripping for a couple of days. I’m ever so glad I decided to replace the old drafty windows with triple pane ones after I first moved into the house 13 years ago–I shudder to think of what it would’ve been like with the old ones!
BUT yesterday afternoon’s 11° never felt so warm! And 20°F today!

We do regularly get bitter cold temperatures here in Indiana (but not as bad as MN, IA, or the Dakotas). Certainly far more cold than the Mid-Atlantic, where I used to live. Still, I do love the gamut of of temperatures throughout the year, though I could use just a little less of bitter cold.

And it gives local media something to cover!

Having grown up with winter, I have to laugh at myself when it’s in the low fifties now and I’m all bundled up. It’s hard for me to image the temps you live with. Glad to hear the thermometer is on the rise.

The wind feels not just cold but like ice. I actually bought snow boots.
