How was your weekend?

This morning in ballet class, I got the dreaded question – how was your weekend? There was a long silence while I took the time to think, did I do anything exciting? Later in the day, I remembered a highlight was going to the Farmer’s Market early Sunday morning and surrounding myself with gorgeous fruits and vegetables. Does that count?

That sounds like a beautiful morning! Through an exercise of trying to calendar and schedule my work days, I learned I should schedule my free time too. I do think I enjoy my weekends a lot more since I actually think about how I want to spend them.

Is there a recurring item on your weekend list?

      • Claire says:

My recurring items are cleaning and tidying up. That doesn’t sound like much fun, but having my space neat and clean makes me happy. I let it get a little messy during the week. I do try to find something interesting to do locally and when the weather is nice be outside. So much rain lately though.

Farmers Market visits count!!! During the warmer weather seasons, when the market operates weekly instead of monthly, one of the highlights of my weekends are Saturday mornings, when I get on my bike and head out to the market, trying to get there close to the 8 AM opening bell. Visit with my local growers and producers, maybe buy some flowers to take home, just chatting with the vendors–what a delightful and civilized way to start the weekend! And I bike to a local coffee shop after shopping, order a latte or cappuccino, turn my phone off, and just peruse the scene.

Not sure why “weekend plans” are assumed to only worthy when they consist of parties or dinners or trips out of town. For many of us, the weekend is our time to decompress, to be ourselves and disconnect from the pressures of work, to escape stress and the insanity of workaday grind. I love Claire’s idea of scheduling her free time–if we don’t do that, we run the risk of not having any free time.

One of my favorite neighbors is at the Farmers Market every Sunday around the same time as me. We’re both early risers and usually there by 8AM. He starts his Market morning by having fresh-shucked oysters, and I often sit with him as he devours them (while thinking, oysters at 8am. Really?)

Sounds like a fine weekend to me too. When you are retired everyday is a weekend and after about 15 months I am still not tired of it.
The simpler pleasure in life just become more magnified because you have the time to be present.

And speaking of weekends this weekend I came home from my cruise. Sadly the cruise and I physically did not get along well, I was wildly seasick ):

Well Dramamine works if you take it before you get sick. I did take some but it did not work. They sold these little elastic bracelets called SeaBands that just use accupressure points and they seemed to do the trick and bonus drug free!
