Holiday Weekend

I’m spending Saturday at the hair salon. What’s on tap for your holiday weekend?

Donating platelets and, if I can get a break in the rain, mowing the lawn (I may need to do this in 2 parts: front yard one day and backyard the next).

Was hoping to get a nice long bike ride in, but with the possibility of strong to severe storms, I may have to settle for a shorter one.

Pardon my ignorance – Is donating platelets like donating blood?

Yes it is, Wendy: same chairs, same needle-in-the-arm, same bloodmobile. Donating platelets does take a lot longer though–for me, anywhere from an hour and twenty minutes to 3 hours (from intake to completion). If mine are running well, it takes longer, because they can get a double unit from me. BUT, I vastly prefer it to whole blood donation, With blood donation, it’d take me 6 weeks to get back to feeling in top exercise shape (because you’ve lost those red blood cells and their oxygen-carrying ability). With platelet donation, I can donate one day and go out for a long bike ride the next day without feeling more fatigued than I ordinarily do. I used to donate blood once, maybe twice, a year because of the exercise effects. Now I donate platelets monthly.

Working on my son’s old room which is going to be converted to my room to listen to music and take care of my plants and read. It will also be my tech free room, no phones, laptops or television.

I am jealous of your hair salon appointment I love going to the hair salon.

    Happy Memorial Day!

Well a bit of a slow start but I made some real progress today. My schedule is to have it all done by June 10th. So I am working a few hours a day on it and not over doing it, but good news is all the dreaded things are done so the rest is pretty easy.

The dreaded tasks were cleaning it out and repairing holes and pulling up carpet. The easiest part is when the walls are painted the new carpet goes down and the curtains are hung and I get to put the room together.
And the cherry on top is when I can relax and listen to the first album I have never heard before. It’s like a surprise box of music.
