What shoes are you wearing?

In my apartment, I have a glorious shoe closet. (It was already there when I moved in.) But sadly, all the shoes are gathering dust. These days, I’ve devolved to wearing mostly Birkenstocks and Uggs. How about you?

Yup! For me, it’s slippers and Uggs. I was never a shoe person but even I’m bored with my foot attire.

Brooks running shoes and Merrill hiking boots. Plus a cute pair of booties, because occasionally I want to wear a dress or a skirt. But I’m going into the office every day, for which I am quite grateful.

Tomorrow is my last face-to-face class for the semester, so the booties and a cute dress will make an appearance (plus, we have a small ceremony to recognize our December graduates). I’m at a university that has elected to go in-person, although many (most?) classes are either fully online or partially online owing to limited classroom capacities (for social distancing). Many of my colleagues only come in on teaching days if they have face-to-face classes. But as a new department chair, I’ve been in every work day since the beginning of July. I love the normalcy, although we take the virus very seriously. I have my own office with a door I can close, plus I wear a mask whenever I leave my office (including to use the microwave or get my lunch from the refrigerator, both of which are literally 5 feet from my office entry door!) I am also teaching a class face-to-face (only 14 students) and I love it. I really dislike teaching online because my style is rather peripatetic.

So, bottom line is that I like going in, even if it’s quieter than usual. I have normal conversations with the secretary, the lab technician, and my colleagues. We’re all masked, of course, and spaced apart.
