Gloria Steinem famously said, “some of us are becoming the men we want to marry.” I would add to that – some of us are becoming our own wives.
- Make sure the martini glasses are chilled
- Keep well stocked on ibuprofen
- Floss daily
- Have takeout menus close at hand
- Treat myself seasonally to new colors of lipstick
- Exercise regularly
- Stay hydrated
- Stretch
- Initiate and firm up details for my annual birthday celebration
- Don’t check emails on Saturday
- Prepare chicken soup at the first sign of a cold (organic fryer, onions, a bunch of carrots, celery, fresh parsley, cold water to cover)
- Insure there is an emergency-level supply of toilet paper in the pantry
- Practice gratitude even when I’m feeling mighty sorry for myself
- Get enough sleep
- Make a deal with a friend to swap rides to the auto mechanic
- Bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies (toss in way more chips than the recipe calls for)
- Plan, in advance, where I’ll be having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner
- Stay connected with out-of-town friends
- Keep my daily subscription to the New York Times
- Buy gas when the “refuel” light comes on in the car
- Try not to feel slighted
- Do what it takes to keep a container of either beef stew, Bolognese sauce or chili in the freezer
- Don’t worry twice
