When You’re in Search of a Kind Word

Browsing in one of L.A.’s last remaining bookstores, I got my hands on Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon.  I follow Kleon’s blog for visual inspiration, and in keeping with his title, I’m going to steal an idea. In his book, he suggests keeping a “praise” file, which holds all the nice things that people say to you. It could be an actual manila folder, a digital one for email, or even metaphysical. We know how criticism tends to linger. Wouldn’t it be better to keep track of the compliments?

Friday, April 13, is the deadline for our CONTEST. Check it out!

What a great idea! I’m big on thinking “opposite” thoughts to curb my anxiety…when I think the worst will happen I force myself to think the best could happen, too. This could be used as a sort of opposite tought–when you think negatively about yourself, go to the positive folder and see something opposite of that thought!

I like the idea of jumping to positive conclusions about others, and most especially, ourselves.

I love this idea! I am always jotting quotes I like, but a nice thing that someone says to me…even better!

Now we just have to really do it!

It’s so much harder to remember the positive thoughts that people have about us…but so much more valuable than the negatve thoughts. But it’s totally worth it.

The thoughts that we choose to remember are exactly that…the ones that we CHOOSE to remember.

Choose wisely. It can make all the difference in the world.

I like the idea of writing down the positive things people say. It is easy to focus on all the negative, and this’ll help to counteract that.
