Just about everyday, I have a banana smoothie. It’s the tastiest when the bananas are really ripe. Until seeing this image I’d never thought about it as a metaphor.
A friend of mine from grad school told me that in her region of China, the brown-speckled bananas commanded a premium because they were so sweet and so fleeting and so few. “sesame bananas”, I think she called them.

My best smoothies are made from the brownest bananas that have been sitting in my frig for a week! Mmmmm
