It seems to me that friendship has an outsized role in an unmarried life. Being single for so long, I’ve grown accustomed to relying on a community of people for support. It can be for the small things, like fixing a table lamp (see yesterday’s post), or for the more profound – an embrace to collapse into during hard times. Both add up to a bountiful existence.
Post-it note by Tanja Hollander
A friend from the Bay Area was visiting over the weekend. He’s mechanically handy and I’m decidedly not. I asked him to take a look at one of my lamps that’s been on the fritz. It took him about a half an hour to disassemble and sort out the problem. And now, the lamp is working like a dream. He was happy to help. I felt so taken care of. I cooked him dinner. Together, we’ll get through this.
