If by “beach” you mean sofa, it’s Swamplandia! by Karen Russell. Also my “woke up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep” read. Bought this on a whim and found the first third engaging, but not compelling. Well, that’s changed! It’s wildly inventive, with a fascinating 13-year old protagonist. I’m amazed at Russell’s imagination and verbal dexterity.
Here’s to sofa reading – my favorite.
