I am my own Wife*

lipstick

Gloria Steinem famously said, “some of us are becoming the men we want to marry.” I would add to that – some of us are becoming our own wives.

  • Make sure the martini glasses are chilled
  • Keep well stocked on ibuprofen
  • Floss daily
  • Have takeout menus close at hand
  • Treat myself seasonally to new colors of lipstick
  • Exercise regularly
  • Stay hydrated

  • Stretch
  • Initiate and firm up details for my annual birthday celebration
  • Don’t check emails on Saturday
  • Prepare chicken soup at the first sign of a cold (organic fryer, onions, a bunch of carrots, celery, fresh parsley, cold water to cover)
  • Insure there is an emergency-level supply of toilet paper in the pantry
  • Practice gratitude even when I’m feeling mighty sorry for myself
  • Get enough sleep
  • Make a deal with a friend to swap rides to the auto mechanic
  • Bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies (toss in way more chips than the recipe calls for)
  • Plan, in advance, where I’ll be having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner
  • Stay connected with out-of-town friends
  • Keep my daily subscription to the New York Times
  • Buy gas when the “refuel” light comes on in the car
  • Try not to feel slighted
  • Do what it takes to keep a container of either beef stew, Bolognese sauce or chili in the freezer
  • Don’t worry twice

 How do you nurture yourself?
