I did not love, I Am Love, a lush new film, directed by Luca Guadagnino, which peeks into the lives of the very rich. But it was still a pleasurable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Here’s why:
1. The porcelain Tilda Swinton is riveting, as always
2. John Adams’ pulsating score overshadows the story, but I loved it anyway
3. All the stunning, upper crust clothes designed by Raf Simon of Jil Sander, most of which I couldn’t imagine wearing, were still drool-worthy. (I would have taken any of the purses.)
4. Beautiful countryside of San Remo made me nostalgic for Italy
5. There’s a handy tip for a seating plan I’ll try at my next big dinner party
All good reasons – I’ll seek this one out. Could you share the seating chart tip in the meantime?
Cheers!
For occasional holiday dinners, we can have 20+ people at the table, and it’s hard to figure out where to fit the place cards so that they stay put, and so people don’t switch them around (which has happened a few times). In “I Am Love,” Emma (Tilda Swinton’s character) used a small oval piece of wood, on which she arranged the place cards. As guests filed into the room for dinner, they looked at it, to know where they were sitting at the table. It was very elegant and civilized.
