Living alone I depend on TV to give me ambient noise and it’s rather disconcerting when it’s not around. Currently I live in an apartment where I can’t hear the TV in the living room when I’m in the kitchen and it bothers me so much I’m going to be getting a TV in the kitchen. But would my life end if I didn’t have any TV in it — NOPE.
One of the first things I did moving into my condo was get cable hooked up into my kitchen. I love having a TV there, so I can have it on while I cook.
I do watch some TV online, and I can get broadcast channels with my trusty antenna. Also Netflix is great for the premium shows like “Mad Men” and “Boardwalk Empire.” When I first cut the cable cord it seemed a little odd not to have CNN and ESPN and HGTV and TNT…but after about two weeks you forget they exist and everything is fine.
I personally survive by listening to a number of comedy podcasts. Not only are they more insightful and entertaining than TV, but I don’t have to keep my eyes on a screen, so I can cook and clean and pay bills and do other such things while listening. Just recently though I decided to cut down a little. I like that the ones I listen to get really personal, but I started feeling like I was getting to know and becoming invested in the people doing them, and I realized these were fake, one-sided relationships that perhaps I was using to fill my time in lieu of having something more substantial going on. thebitterbabe.wordpress.com

Thanks, Richard. Glad you had the chance to see it. And thanks for taking the time to comment.

Got rid of the cable, don’t miss it a bit. Of course, this just gives me more time to randomly surf the intertubes…
Jane, do you watch TV shows online?

I like TV occasionally. It’s comforting sometimes and I especially love humor.
But what I can’t live without is the internet and talk radio. I am addicted to both!!!
I consume so many media in all its forms, and love it. But I do try to unplug for 24 hours each week.
