This is not my dog. It’s a shot from a series, Maddie the Coonhound, described by the photographer Theron Humphrey as “a serious project about dogs and physics.” I’ve had this photo on my desktop for days. It makes me feel cozy each time I look at it, and afterwards I go hug my own dog, who is smaller, but every bit the hero.
Contest winner announced tomorrow.
The photos of Maddie are indeed well-done but make me very sad for her. Really sad seeing how many precarious situations her owner placed her in for the sake of art. I have pretty mixed feelings about this project.
I appreciate your point of view, Annie. And thanks for sharing it.
I would never put my dog in a precarious situation. But it’s my experience that she really likes to be challenged physically and mentally. The more she “works,” the happier she seems to be.
