Tough question. I was in a relationship with a Libertarian for a few years, and it just…I couldn’t do it. We felt so different about so many fundamental things. I’m pretty dedicated to the idea of everyone pitching in and helping people who need it. Didn’t work out. Similarly I couldn’t date someone who was very religious. Too much difference in views of how the world works!
I have friends on both sides, but as I’ve grown older, it is harder for me to imagine living with someone from the opposite side. I think the reason it seems less likely has something to do with how much farther apart the two sides have grown. There is no longer a middle ground – at least, not one anyone seems willing to tolerate.

I do think politics reflects core values, although I have friends on both sides of the aisle.

Moderates don’t get elected anymore. It all seems so partisan.
