It turns out that heaven is exhausting. I just returned from vacation where I stayed at a friend of a friend’s magnificent seven-bedroom second home overlooking the Napa valley. My San Francisco foodie pals planned and executed the glorious food, hauling the implements to get the job done, including mesquite for the Tuscan grill, a gelato maker, aged balsamic vinegar, two kinds of premium olive oils (one for cooking, the other strictly for dipping) Henricks gin, Chopin vodka, and a selection of the best California wines. We stayed up past 2 AM talking (and sometimes dancing) on the deck underneath a spray of stars, then stumbled out of bed each morning to refresh ourselves in the pool. It was great fun. And now, I need a nap.

I always say I need a vacation from my vacation when I return. But your vacation sounds like something that only happens in the movies. How do I get to be friends with you and your friends? I hope you enjoyed your well deserved nap.
It was like the movies. I had to continually pinch myself that I got to be a part of such a bountiful experience.
I too want to be friends with your friends. Tuscan grill? Gelato maker? Sign me up.
My gourmet chef friend made Paella on the grill. It was incredible to watch and scrumptious to eat.
As I prepare for my own vacation, first to VA Beach and then to Seattle, I would have to say, yes, vacations can be tiring. However, I’ve just rolled off of a six month rotation of shift work and that wore me out. I worked both night and day shifts, 12 hours long (not counting commute) and switched shifts approximately every three weeks. Yesterday was my last round and I crawled into bed a mere hour and a half after getting home.
So now here I am ready to hit the road and have some quality time with friends and nature. Sure I’ll be a bit tired, but I’ll be detoxing from all those long days and nights I’ve had since March. It will be a good tired!
Have a great trip, Jalina.
You are so lucky to be blessed with such blessed friends! I’m taking a vicarious summer vacation on the fumes I’ve conjured from yours…
I’m going to be working off those fumes for awhile.
