Role Plays

In honor of Halloween, the Ukrainian pianist who accompanies my ballet class dressed up as a 1960’s American airline pilot. He was absolutely committed to it, and it made us smile.

I LOVE to dress up, especially when I can take the time to put together something awesome myself. I throw a lot of tea parties and things at work, so I’ve got a great homemade tutu that gets trotted out every so often. Last year I was dumped shortly before halloween, ruining my costume (it was a couples’ costume) and I didn’t have it in me to put something together. THIS year I had SO MUCH FUN putting together my costume…and to my great surprise THIS happened http://boingboing.net/2012/10/31/bb-readers-diy-halloween-cos.html

Sounds like a fun night, Wendy. Seeing someone commit to a character for an evening is fun. As an aside, I just love the little black dress on the right in the picture. What a classic.

I spent the first 8 years of my life raised as an Orthodox Jew with a father who had returned to the religion as an adult and was a real stickler for doing everything BY THE BOOK which, for me, meant as the only Jew in my class I didn’t get to participate in Halloween activities or Christmas activities with my classmates. By the time he passed away and my more leniant mother would allow me to partake, the meaning of these activities was completely lost on me. Consequently I’m not a big fan of dressing up for Halloween or anything having to do with Christmas (or, ironically, any of the Jewish holidays either.) I just don’t get it. But I’m your girl for Thanksgiving and Independence Day, my favorite days of the year and no costumes required.
