During the day-to-day grind, it feels like progress moves forward at a glacial pace. One step ahead, three steps back. But every once in awhile, it’s clear from the evidence that things have really changed. Today in Washington, Senator Amy Klobuchar spoke about such a moment: “For the first time, there was a traffic jam in the Senate women’s bathroom,” she said. “There were five of us in there, and there are only two stalls.”

Love this. Two stalls in the women’s bathroom. Now that’s outrageous.
For a long time after the first women were elected, there was no women’s bathroom near the Senate floor. There was a renovation maybe 15 years ago so that the women did not have to go downstairs wherever. When of course the men had what they needed just a step away.
This is potty-talk progress. And that’s a start. Cheers to all of our female legislators.
Small things add up. Hooray for progress.
