The State of the Union

Michael Vincent ManaloI’ve been glued to the TV for the State of the Union address and commentary. It’s like the Oscars for political types like me. One of my favorite lines of the evening: “Our rights are wrapped up in the rights of others.”

They. Deserve. A Vote. Pretty damn impressive. Let’s see what happens.

On the Climate Crisis, glad he talked about it but the message was troublingly mixed, especially talking about more oil and nat gas permits. Yeah, that gets us off of foreign oil but means we’re still pumping 90,000,000 tons of global warming pollution into the air every day. So I’ll be in DC on Sunday protesting the Keystone XL Pipeline.

I think it’s hysterical that Rep. Eliot Engel (D-Bronx) always is on the aisle, no matter the Prez, getting an autograph. He used to be my rep and basically that’s what he’s known for.

I guess I’m just glad I no longer live on the Hill. I didn’t have to pass through a security checkpoint to get home…

I couldn’t take my eyes off of Boehner – he looked like he was having horrible gas pains, lol. Petty, pouty little 5-year-old living in a grown man’s body…

I was also disturbed by what Obama said about all that oil and natural gas drilling. I also liked what he said about how a family with two parents working full time shouldn’t be below the poverty line, but, like a lot of things in that speech, I doubt he’ll get it through the House.

I agree. John Boehner looked really unhappy to be there. On the issue that I’m working on, immigration reform, there’s real hope. It seems that the political stars are finally aligned.
