Is Relationship Advice Worthwhile?

Personal MessageMy friend, the psychotherapist, doesn’t believe people take advice. It’s a provocative admission, and he’s probably right. I once bought a self-help book on how to make relationships work better, even though I wasn’t in a relationship at the time. I was trying to study up, and got about halfway through before realizing, this is not something you can practice on your own.

I’ve solicited advice before, simply because I know my own perspective is so narrow. Hearing how other people would behave in a similar situation to me is interesting- I might learn a simple way to tweak my behaviour that benefits all my relationships (friends, family), not just the relationship with a significant other.
