Salvador Dali “Those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing.” Salvador Dali

My hairstylist is an artistic genius. I sit in her chair, and let her do whatever she wants. But today, for the first time in our 10-year relationship, I brought in a page from a fashion magazine of a haircut I really liked. I was a little timid about it, not knowing how she’d react. Would she get put off at my suggesting she copy someone else’s vision? Of course not. She loved the haircut, and told me how much she appreciates drawing inspiration from whatever sources she can. That’s inspiring.

And inspiration doesn’t always come from the most obvious sources. I play guitar and obviously I can be inspired by listening to Joe Bonamassa or SRV, but I also got inspired by watching the Kings of Salsa dance. Or sometimes quilting can inspire.

Neil Young said he gets inspiration for his music by playing around with his electric trains.

    You just never know.

Oh Wendy, how great! I love my hairdresser too and have been going to him for almost 10 yrs as well. About 5 yrs ago, I confessed to him that I always wanted to cut my hair short…like, very short. Not able to put in a pony tail short (and I’ve always had dark hair way, way past my shoulders). He was like ‘do it girl, it will always grow back!’ And I did, and LOVED it!! I felt like such a fashionista. Now its back to long down my back…but I still see him and he’s such a fun person in my life. Weird how that happens. Oh and…I’ve had a serious crush on him since we ‘met’. And he shows me pictures of his new wife and 2nd baby, and its such great fun.

Recently I threw caution to the wind with my hair. I have never ever worn my hair super short but having been in a rut, I decided what the hey. I brought to my hairdresser a photo of Anne Hathaway and said i want my hair cut as short and pixie like as hers (I also promised her jokingly that I would give her a huge tip if she could make me look completely like Anne Hathaway.). She did a great job, I was very happy with it, and the really great uplifting thing was, the next day when I got to the office, someone complimented me on it, saying “hey it’s Anne Hathaway! Looks great.”

This past fall during the Jewish Holidays, I spotted Anne Hathaway at my Synagogue. She had that great short haircut, and looked smashing in person. Good move, Paulette.
