Have you seen the Fellini film, Nights of Cabiria? It’s about a hardworking prostitute on the streets of Rome, determined to improve her lot in life, even though life isn’t cooperating. No matter how many times Cabiria’s efforts gets epically thwarted, she refuses to be defeated. I saw the film decades ago and her resilience still haunts me.
Artwork by Anthony Burrill with words by Virginia Woolf.
‘Haunting resilience.’ Why haunting?
Haunting because it’s a challenge to live up to her fierceness. I think of Cabiria, when things don’t go my way. She kept rising up, no matter what life dished out. It haunts and inspires.
I’ll look uo that story. I’m not familiar with the movie. Thanks.
It’s fantastic.
Sounds like an interesting film. Thanks for the suggestion.
It’s dark, but a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
