I always love watching Rogers & Astaire. I took tap dancing lessons as a child, and it always impresses me how easy they make it look, and of course, the heels on my tap shoes were never as high as the heels Ginger wears in these dance numbers, which makes it even more spectacular!
But since this was in honor of Fred Astaire’s birthday, I’d like to mention that my very favorite dance number of his is the firecracker/Fourth of July dance he did in “Holiday Inn”, which was a solo number. I saw it on a big screen last December, after seeing it about a bajillion times on TV. The movie is only OK, and I probably never would have seen it more than once or twice, were it not for the firecracker dance.
Some of the steps he does seem to defy the laws of physics (tap shoes are slippery, and it’s important to stay balanced to keep them from slipping out from underneath you.) I always wonder how many takes it took to get the final product we see in the film.
I actually get goosebumps when I watch him dance, he is that good. “Sublime” says it all.
thanks!
I can’t get enough of Fred Astaire. He makes it look so easy.
I get goosebumps watching her jump over the fencing in those heels. Amazing.
Dancing in heels, period, amazes me.

A friend just started taking tap classes, and he’s having so much fun. Maybe it’s time to tip a tap toe back in.
