I’ve had any number of opportunities to pair off with Mr. You’ll Do and it just wasn’t enough. I may not find Mr. Right in this lifetime but I’m just not willing to sell myself out and maybe miss the opportunity to find what’s right for me.
I’m in a situation where the only men who show me attention are ones that I have no interest in (nerds, thugs, older men, etc.) and street harassers. That, and the male friends that are decent friends but who I feel no romantic inclination towards whatsoever.
If I were to settle for whatever came my way (and when I was 20 I almost did with a very creepy guy who had a ton of issues), then I would be miserable. I’d rather be single for the rest of my life than settle for anything less.

I’ve temporarily paired off with Mr. You’ll Do and in retrospect, I’m glad to have had the fun.
You should never settle; you’re worth much more than that.
Only if while you’re settling, you acknowledge it (at least to yourself) and are having fun.

I happen to be attracted to nerds, but I get your point.
