Wendy, that sounds delicious! I didn’t make any strawberry ice cream this year (but I did can strawberry jam!) Strawberry is my favorite fruit flavor of ice cream.

It’s been 90 degrees most of the week here in Indiana–we’ve actually had a relatively pleasant summer with few days in the 90s, but I am really ready for fall. I saw local mums and pumpkins at the farmers market last week and I’m itching to braise something (it’s always about food with me, isn’t it?) That said, I’ll do a few summer things this weekend (grilling, maybe making ratatouille), but I’m ready for long sleeves and crisp air. Autumn is my favorite season and I’d love it if it lasted 9 months long!

That said, I hope you enjoy your weekend AND your ice cream!

This is the first real heat wave we’ve had in L.A this summer, so I’m enjoying it. My friend and I sat out on my terrace last night sipping martinis, eating melon & prosciutto, pasta with pesto and strawberry ice cream. It was heavenly. Happy grilling.

    That does sound delicious!

I can’t believe that summer’s almost over. It flew by too quickly for me.

Still almost 3 weeks left of summer, technically :). Here in NYC it is that classic Labor Day weather: Sticky, hot, sticky, rainy, sticky. Did I say sticky? Went to the US Open last night (saw Nadal at his most Nadal-esque), a bbq with a new crowd on Sat. Mom on Sun, getting closer to her move to assisted living. All in all a good sticky Labor sticky Day weekend.

The perk of being single is when you decide to really cook, you have enough food to last at least a week. I bought new knives and a Dutch oven and was determined to put both to work last week. I made my mom’s favorite cold pasta, a shrimp macaroni salad; chicken tagine with almonds, golden raisins and chickpeas; a frittata with onions, shredded cheese and andouille sausage; almond smoothies with vanilla almond milk, almond butter and 1) blueberries and strawberries and 2) strawberries, bananas and peaches (I liked the second version better) and still had a turkey burger, chips and apple cider beer on Labor Day. I felt like such a grown up!

I hope I remember how much I enjoy cooking and do it more.
