Ever since I moved into my condo and realized I can’t reach the bulbs in the ceiling fixtures without being perched on my tip toes on the top ledge of the stepladder, I’ve gone easy on the lights. This is good news for the environment. When the halogen bulb blew in my wall sconce, I tried not to panic. This one isn’t so high up, but in struggling to get the bulb out, I cracked the glass shade. It’s times like these that I wish my dog was taller and good with her paws.

I’m thrilled not to ever answer these questions from The Marital Compatibility Test.
A reader commenting on my post 10 Reasons to Stay Away from Married Men, referred to herself as “collateral damage” in her affair. This got me to thinking about relationships we regret, and if there were any in my history so scarring that I wished they’d never happened. From my current state of calm singleness, I can’t come up with one. But I wondered what stories you have to tell.
Regrets by Emiliano Ponzi
Walking my dog just now, I passed a “gastro-pub” in the neighborhood. It’s a boisterous place with great food and I’m thinking it might improve my social life to cozy up to the bar. When I’m on the road it feels totally natural to sit alone at the hotel bar. And yet 3 blocks from my house, it’s like another thing entirely. Talk me into it. Please.

A few months ago, a neighbor brought a plumber to see my apartment to get ideas for updating her bathroom. I ran into her last week and asked if she’d started the remodel. She laughed and quickly said, no. “I decided to go to Italy, instead.” That jived with an article I read recently suggesting that investing in real estate doesn’t necessarily translate into happiness. I say, to each her own.
